Careers Central
Careers Central is a web based program which is used to map each student’s strengths, interests, subject choices, and tracks possible career pathways. Students begin attending career based interviews alongside working with this program in Year 10. They will continue updating their ideas throughout their time at Excellere College.
The information gathered helps staff to give advice, monitor individual career pathways and targets students for career linked courses and work experience opportunities. Students use the program to research and identify different careers and job opportunities, build their CV and track NCEA results.
Work Experience
Work experience is offered to a select number of Senior School students based on their interest and career pathway. These are organised through local businesses and can involve a set day out of school each week or a block of time during a school holiday.
An agreement between the caregiver, school student and business outlines the expectations of the placement. In the past successful work experience opportunities have been arranged covering all the Vocational Pathway Sectors such as hospitality, retail, health, trades, agriculture/ horticulture and creative establishments..
Tertiary Experience
We use a variety of providers to give Level 1, 2 and 3 students experience in the tertiary sector. Students are invited to attend courses linked with their pathway ideas where they are offered unit standard credits in areas such as diving, first aid and hospitality skills. Students may also apply for Academy places covering sections in Automotive, Health, Hair and Beauty, Construction, Cooking and Hospitality Service.
